Please join other alumni and friends in support of Northwestern University Library.

When you become a donor to Northwestern University Library, you strengthen an extraordinary intellectual resource at the core of the University's academic achievements. Your contribution allows the Library to offer a wide array of services to Northwestern students and faculty, as well to scholars from around the world — from cutting-edge search-and-retrieval information systems to the preservation of rare and precious materials. Furthermore, it helps to keep Northwestern University Library one of the top academic research institutions in the nation.

The Library Annual Fund

Every year, Northwestern alumni, parents, and friends contribute to the acquisitions of electronic and traditional materials that build the research strength of the Library’s collections and support academic programs. Donate to the Library Annual Fund.

Library Materials Endowment

Permanently endowed funds provide the Library a steady income for the purchase of important academic materials. Endowed funds at the Library can be named in perpetuity and can be designated to specific academic areas. The minimum to endow a fund at the Library is currently $25,000, which can be pledged and paid out over a maximum of 5 years. Please contact the Library's Director of Development for further information or to receive samples of existing funds.

The Deering Society

The premier philanthropic group of the Northwestern University Library takes its name from the family whose generosity established the Charles Deering Library. Committed donors continue to join newer generations of the Deering and McCormick families in the same spirit of nobility and vitality of ideas. Membership in the Deering Society is extended to those whom made contributions of $1,000 or more in a given fiscal year. To receive a brochure and information about the Deering Society programs, please contact the Library Development Office.

Planned Gifts

Please consider the Northwestern University Library as the recipient of your legacy by developing a planned living strategy with a specialized development officer. Northwestern's Office of Gift Planning will be glad to advise on the various gift options available at the University.

Gifts in-kind

The Library welcomes appraised gifts of books and other printed material that directly support Northwestern studies and are of exceptional quality. Note on the tax status of in-kind gifts: Because the IRS regards the Library as an interested party, the Library itself is unable to provide appraisals, though we are able to provide names of appraisers. The University does not receipt books with an actual value unless the gift is appraised. Please contact the Library's Director of Development if you are concerned about the utility of your gift.
