Moving from NUcat to NUsearch

In September 2014 Northwestern University Library introduced NUsearch, a library resource discovery system. NUsearch gives users the ability to search the library’s holdings or to refine to discrete material types, such as books or articles. NUsearch will replace NUcat, the library’s online catalog, in July 2015. NUcat will be retired after nearly 20 years of service.

NUsearch offers:
  • Access to articles in our journal databases including JSTOR, Project MUSE and Web of Science
  • Advanced personal account features like viewing your checked-out items, renewing your books and saving search strategies
  • Facets that allow you to narrow your searches by subject, format, language and more
  • Better integration of library systems for a more seamless experience
Getting started with NUsearch:
The new interface offers searches via three tabs over the search box. The NUsearch tab will search everything in the library’s catalog, including our digitized collections, as well as article content from our journal databases. The Books, Images & More tab limits the search to the library’s holdings, but excludes article content. The Articles tab will limit the search to journal articles.
