Academic Liaison Services

Collection Development Policy |
Northwestern University’s Academic Liaisons are subject specialists whose role is to develop and manage the library’s collections; and to offer discipline-specific research consultations and specialized instruction, general information on library services, and information on topics in scholarly communication (for example, copyright, fair use, and publisher agreements). The liaisons, who serve as the library’s primary contacts with an academic department, program, or group of scholars with needs in common, specialize in a vast array of subjects. A full list of subject specialists is available on the web. To identify a librarian who can help with topics or programs that might not be covered on the subject specialist list, please contact the library’s disciplinary coordinators. In addition to discipline-specific work, liaisons can direct faculty and students to other units in
the library. Patrons are encouraged to drop by the Academic Liaison Services Department (ALS), which is
located on the 2nd floor, east tower of the main library. While only a very few of the library's
subject specialists have offices on 2East, anyone in the department will be more than happy to
answer questions, or to direct users to the appropriate librarian or department. For more
information, email alsdept@northwestern.edu, or contact Harriet Lightman, Head, ALS at (847) 491-2920. Academic Liaison Services Northwestern University Library Last updated: 11/10/08 |
