Library Administration

Management Council

Management Council is a decision-making and policy-setting group consisting of all Library department heads, the Associate University Librarians, and the University Librarian.

Its purpose is to provide a regular forum for the discussion and resolution of issues relating to Library-wide policies.

Roles of Management Council Members

A. Participation

  1. Identify potential agenda items to facilitators
  2. Prepare and distribute materials relating to agenda items in advance of meetings
  3. Review distributed materials and identify questions on agenda items which are for discussion and decision
  4. Participate fully by ensuring that all viewpoints are shared
  5. Facilitate meetings to ensure:
    -- active participation
    -- continuity of discussions
    -- closing discussion and recording decisions
    -- followup of unresolved issues

B. Advice and Consultation

  1. Discuss Library-wide issues
  2. Serve in an advisory role to the University Librarian
  3. Provide information and advice to other members upon request

C. Decision-making

  1. Make decisions on Library-wide issues
  2. Be responsible for assuring that consensus (majority opinion) is reached

D. Communication

  1. Share information about departmental activities
  2. Report on meetings to departmental staff, and solicit input and concerns from staff
  3. Bring issues from staff to Management Council for discussion
