The Library's Networked CD Service System Messages
It is essential to have the Java Virtual Machine installed and correctly configured to access the networked CD-ROMS. In most cases JVM will be installed and automatically enabled as it should be to allow the connection to be made to the server. If Java is not enabled correctly you will get an error message indicating that you are unable to connect. You will need to troubleshoot the issues related to Java before you can successfully connect and run a remote database.
Sessions are “idle” if there has not been any activity for 10 minutes. A warning appears on the user's workstation warning them that they will be disconnected and giving them a chance to continue their session. If they do nothing, the session will end automatically.
If a user reaches the session limit time (3 hours), a warning will pop up and tell them that the session will be ending. There is no way to prolong the session.
Several of the databases require access to the local workstation to run properly. They request this access either when the database is first starting up in the Citrix session, or when the user attempts to save search results to the local hard drive. The user may grant or deny access, but it should be noted that the title may not run correctly if it request access and it is denied.
Depending on how Java is configured on the workstation, a user may see one of these security popup messages asking for permissions to run the required java applet.
When you launch a database, your Java Compatible Web-browser makes the request to run the database and allows the Citrix Java Client to download from the Ctirix server. These warnings may appear depending on how your security settings on your workstation have been configured. They are asking you if it is ok to download and install the Citrix Java applet or not. The warning tells you that the applet is a trusted and signed by Citrix Systems.
Users can launch multiple databases at the same time. They will run in the same active session. You can not run a second instance of a database. This is the popup that runs showing that there is a java connection to the Citrix server. It is indicating that two databases are running on the workstation.
