About Main Library Circulation Services

Circulation Services staff are available to help users with all procedures related to checking out and returning books. Circulation is also responsible for shelving, locating missing books, and recalling books checked out to other users, among many other things.

You can use this site to access services and forms for various borrowing procedures; a detailed explanation of Northwestern University Main Library policies; maps and guides to the library and its book stacks; privileges information relating to obtaining borrowing privileges, study carrels, and setting up students to act as research assistants; and contact information for circulation services throughout the Northwestern University Library system.

Note: The policies and procedures outlined on these pages pertain to circulation units at the following libraries: Main, Science and Engineering, Music, Schaffner, Geology, and Math. Other Northwestern libraries, including United, Law, and Galter Health Sciences are separate library units and have their own policies. Please check their web sites for more information.
