Requesting Materials

Request Chicago Campus Materials (Call Slip):

Anyone with a valid borrower's card can place a request to have materials from the Chicago campus sent to the Evanston campus, and arrange a pickup location at any Evanston campus library. This request may be made in person at the Main Circulation Desk, or it can be submitted through our online form. The form is for users of Evanston campus libraries only.

Request Storage Facility Materials (LSF):

Any patron may place a request to have materials from the Library Storage Facility sent to the Main library on the Evanston campus. This request may be made in person at the Main Circulation Desk, or it can be submitted through our online form. The form is for users of Evanston campus libraries only.

Request for Uncataloged Materials (RUMs)

How to tell if a book is uncataloged:

Any item in NUCat that is listed as "In Process" or "On Order" or "Received on [date]; Inquire at Circulation Desk" instead of having a call number is uncataloged.

How to place a Request for Uncataloged Material (RUM):

  • Come to the Circulation Desk. You will need to provide the author and title of the item and your WildCARD.
  • Use our online form.

If you need the item soon and it is "On Order," do not place a RUM. Using Interlibrary Loan may be a better option.

The status codes are:

  • "In Process" or "Received on [date]; Inquire at Circulation Desk" – The book is in the library and is usually available approximately three business days after the RUM is placed.
  • "On Order" – The book is not in the library and is still on order. It might be available in a few weeks or months, but occasionally it takes longer. It is recommended that such material be requested through Interlibrary Loan.
