Faculty and Librarians From CIC Institutions
The Committee for Institutional Cooperation (CIC) includes all of the Big Ten Schools, University of Illinois-Chicago and the University of Chicago. Full time faculty members and professional library staff who have been issued a CIC card at their institution may:
• enter the library with their faculty ID
• apply for: a Borrower’s Card, valid for one year, if they present:
- a CIC Card from their home institution;
- one piece of ID from their home institution; and
- one piece of ID with a current Chicago metropolitan area address.
Students Attending CIC Institutions
Students attending a CIC institution who are currently living within the Chicago metropolitan area may apply for:
• a Borrower’s Card, valid for three months, if they present:
- a letter from their Dean or Department Chair stating that the student is in good standing with their home institution (this letter is good for one year);
- one piece of ID with a current Chicago metropolitan area address; and
- a $50.00 fee for three months of borrowing privileges.

Government Personnel
Professional Personnel of Evanston Governmental Agencies
Persons who are on the professional staff of an Evanston Governmental agency (i.e. city government administration, Police, Fire Protection, city consultant for education) may apply for a Borrower’s Card, valid for three months, if they present:
- a letter of request from the proper Evanston city authority that accepts financial responsibility; and
- one piece of ID with a current Chicago metropolitan area address.
Professional Personnel of Illinois State and Federal Governmental Agencies
Illinois State and Federal Government employees doing work-related research may apply for a Borrower’s Card, valid for three months, if they present:
- a letter of request from their organization that accepts financial responsibility;
- one piece of ID with a current Chicago metropolitan area address;
- a $50.00 fee for three months of borrowing privileges; and
- additional documentation may be required, contact the Library Privileges Desk to inquire.

Corporate Borrowers
The Northwestern University Library offers the following services to corporations:
- Borrowing privileges: four week loans with one renewal (See Circulation Policy for Corporate Borrowers for more detailed information);
- Internet access to NUcat, the Northwestern University Library's online catalog within the Voyager database system;
- Access to the Expanded Academic Index and other databases available at terminals in the Library; and
- Access to all Evanston Campus Libraries (excluding the United Library of the Garrett and Seabury Seminaries) during evening and weekend restricted hours.
Please note that Interlibrary Loan Service is available only to Northwestern students, faculty, and staff.
A Corporate Borrower's card for borrowing and access privileges at all Evanston Campus Libraries costs $500 per year for the first card and $200 for any subsequent cards. Fees are payable at the time application is made. Checks should be made payable to Northwestern University.
Cards are issued to individuals and are not transferable. Information on how to obtain one research assistant's card for each paid card is available. Please call Sherie Stein at (847) 491-7632 for any additional information.

Evanston Residents
Persons over the age of 18, who are permanent residents of Evanston, may apply for a Borrower’s Card, valid for three months, if they:
- Present a photo ID;
- Present proof of a current Evanston address, such as a utility bill;
- Pay a $50.00 fee per three months of privileges; and
- Provide a valid e-mail address.
