Self-Guided Tours

Take a tour of the Main Library at Northwestern University when it is convenient for you.

The first part of this two-part “walking tour” which will take you from the entrance of the library to the end of the hallway on the first floor, highlighting the services and staff available to you along the way. The second part will be a brief listing of the other departments contained within the Main Library building and how to access them.

Audio Tour Player Circulation Policies

AudioPlayers with pre-loaded library tours are available for checkout at the Main Library Circulation Desk during the following hours:

Monday-Thursday          8:30am-8pm
Friday                          8:30am-4:30pm
Saturday & Sunday        10:00am-4:30pm

How to check out a player
  • iPods with the pre-loaded library tour are available for checkout to members of the Northwestern Community with current, valid WildCARDs
  • MP3 players with the pre-loaded library tour are available to the general public. To check out an MP3 player, the patron must present a current, valid photo id
  • Staff will inspect the audio equipment for damage before and after the checkout period
  • Staff will provide instructions on how to use the audio equipment by request

Rules Regarding the Use of the Audio Player
  • The loan period for audio players is two hours
  • Audio players must be returned to the Main Library Circulation Desk within the two hour checkout period
  • Only one audio player may be checked out per patron
  • Do not remove the audio player or equipment from the library
  • Do not leave the audio player or equipment unattended
  • Do not lend the audio player or equipment to anyone
  • Do not alter the audio player or equipment in any way
  • The borrower assumes full responsibility for the audio player and equipment during the checkout period
  • Borrowers are responsible for equipment damages or loss up to $350
