  • Academic OneFile A collection of peer-reviewed, full-text articles from more than 5000 journals, plus indexing of an additional 4000+ journals, newspapers and wire services. Coverage from 1980 to the present. Extensive coverage of the social sciences and other disciplines. Use this database for a broad search to retrieve both first tier as well as second tier sources. For a less broad search of first tier sources only, use Expanded Academic ASAP (EXAC).
  • Academic Search Premier "Multidisciplinary coverage of journal literature, including.... communications, computer sciences, engineering, language and linguistics... " Includes over 4515 full-text titles as well as citations and abstracts for over 8000 scholarly journals, about 45% of which are peer-reviewed.
  • AccuNet/AP Multimedia Archive Searchable databases of photographs from the Associated Press; also includes databases of AP text and audio files.
  • America: History and Life Of value for investigating all aspects of the history of communications media and industries. Includes citations and abstracts from more than 2,100 journals from around the world, on historical treatments of topics related to Canada and the United States, in about 40 languages, from 1964 to the present.   • AP Images About 800 photos per day feed into this photo archive moments after moving onto the AP's spot picture system. Over 3 million U.S. and international photos, from 1826 to present. Almost 200 per day are saved for all time, while others are archived for about one year. Also includes over 60,000 graphics, charts, and timelines.
  • ComAbstracts: "...contains abstracts of articles and books published in the primary professional literature of the communication(s) field as well as bibliographic records and audio materials."
  • Communication & Mass Media Complete Provides full-text for more than 240 journals, cover-to-cover indexing and abstracts for over 370 journals, and selected indexing and abstracts for over 230. "Many major journals have indexing, abstracts, PDFs and searchable cited references from their first issues to the present (dating as far back as 1915)." Incorporates the content of CommSearch (formerly produced by the National Communication Association) and Mass Media Articles Index (formerly produced by Pennsylvania State University).
  • Communication Abstracts Includes "...articles, reports, papers, and books from a variety of publishers, research institutions, and information sources. Coverage includes not only communication literature but also literature in other disciplines that is relevant to communication researchers.... also covers the international literature in film studies, the role of technology in human communications, risk communication, crisis communication and public opinions."
  • Dictionary of Media Studies
  • Documentary & Other Films at NU Long lists of documentary films categorized by subjects such as art, gender, the Middle East, and sexual orientation are available for check-out through the Library's Mitchell Multimedia Center. Television news specials (e.g., political conventions, Presidential debates and speeches, etc.) are collected on a comprehensive basis. Click on the link to see specific topic lists.   • Expanded Academic ASAP (EXAC) This is an important database for social sciences (political economy, gender studies, development, etc) with more than 20 years of coverage of about 3,500 first tier, indexed, and full-text titles, of which 2,100 are peer-reviewed.   • Historical Abstracts Citations and abstracts covering world history (excluding Canada and the United States; for these, see America: History and Life) on topics including communications media.
  • International Bibliography of the Social Sciences Citations from an international selection of publications, including over 2600 journals, in all areas of the social sciences with emphasis on economics, political science, sociology and anthropology.
  • LexisNexis Academic (formerly Academic Universe) "News, legal and business information service."
  • Political Aspects of Communications See the NU Library research guide to political science; for example, Worldwide Political Science Abstracts and others cover propaganda, political advertising, and public opinion.
