Academic Info is a rich and growing site for students of English Literature, American Literature, Comparative Literature, Film Studies, and numerous other humanities disciplines. It aims to be the premier educational gateway to online college and research level Internet resources. Even though the target audience is the college and university community, the subject guides will prove useful to high school and general users as well. There is no attempt to create an online community with chat rooms, personals, and a dorm store. Academic Info is the "white pages" to the academic community.

Among many other things, a great source for full-text (though often rather old) editions of English and American works, as well as international writers (e.g., Hugo, Sand, Storm, Tolstoy) in English translation. Choose from Verse (Dickinson, Eliot, Frost, Graves, et al.), Fiction (Shaw, Stein, Stevenson, et al.), or Nonfiction (H. Adams, DuBois, Strachey, et al.).

Essay and General Literature Index is a bibliographic database that cites essays and articles contained in collections of essays and miscellaneous works published in the United States, Great Britain, and Canada. More than 300 volumes are indexed annually. Additionally, more than 20 annuals and serial publications are indexed. Essay and General Literature Index also provides full bibliographic information on collective titles indexed. Essay and General Literature Index focuses on the humanities and social sciences, with subject coverage ranging from economics, political science, and history to criticism of literary works, drama, and film.

Unrestricted Access - Open to Everyone European National Libraries Catalog
The European Library is a non-commercial organization. It provides the services of a physical library and the opportunity to benefit from a virtual environment in 20 languages. Their website allows users to search through the resources of 30 of the 47 national libraries involved in The European Library. Resources can be both digital or bibliographical (books, posters, maps, sound recordings, videos, etc.).

Bibliographic citations from more than 450 periodicals in topics such as archaeology, art, classics, film, folklore, journalism, linguistics, music, the performing arts, philosophy, religion, world history, and world literature. Records added since 1994 have abstracts, and many citations have links to the full text of the article. Humanities Abstracts is searchable by keyword, author, title, and a variety of other fields. Articles in periodicals not held by NU libraries may be requested online through the Interlibrary Loan Deparment using the 'ILL' button at the top of the screen.

Humanities International Index is a comprehensive database covering journals, books and other important reference sources in the humanities. Humanities International Index provides cover-to-cover indexing and abstracting for over 1,700 journals and contains more than 1.6 million records. The database includes all data from American Humanities Index plus bibliographic records from a multitude of international journals, books and reference works. This database provides citations and abstracts for articles, essays and reviews, as well as original creative works including poems, fiction, photographs, paintings and illustrations. Humanities International Index is a unique, essential collection for comprehensive coverage of the humanities.

Fully searchable, it includes more than 240 entries on critics and theorists, critical schools and movements, and the critical and theoretical innovations of specific countries and historical periods.

Provides electronic access to back issues of core scholarly journals in the humanities, social sciences and the sciences. Articles have been digitized, providing full-image access to the complete runs of over 100 journals. Users may browse by journal and issue, or may search the full text of the articles. Since JSTOR is intended to be an archive, it does not include the current issues of journals nor the most recent four or five years.

Literature Resource Center provides access to biographies, bibliographies, and critical analyses of authors from every age and literary discipline. Combining Gale Group's core literary databases, including Contemporary Literary Criticism and Contemporary Authors, the Literature Resource Center covers more than 120,000 novelists, poets, essayists, journalists, and other writers, with in-depth coverage of 2,500 of the most-studied authors.

The MLA International Bibliography consists of bibliographic records pertaining to literature, language, linguistics, and folklore. The database provides access to scholarly research in nearly 4,000 journals and series. It also covers relevant monographs, working papers, proceedings, bibliographies, and other formats. Users may search or browse by author, title, subject and by several other fields using the 'Search Builder' feature. In addition, searches may be limited by language, publication type and publication year or range of years. The database includes a searchable thesaurus, and allows subject searches to be focused using 'role indicators' and 'subfield codes.'

An eclectic collection that contains fiction, non-fiction, poetry, drama, letters, newspapers, manuscripts and illustrations from 1500 to the present, many of them publicly available through the University of Virginia's Electronic Text Center.

Citations to articles in over 3,500 journals in the social sciences and humanities, in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and other Western languages. Currently included are 100 titles in full image format; more journal images will become available as they are digitized. Indexed journals are covered from their first issues through 1995, and Users may search by keyword, author, journal title, language, and year of publication.

PhiloLogic, a suite of software developed by the ARTFL Project at the University of Chicago in collaboration with The University of Chicago Library, provides sophisticated searching of a wide variety of large encoded databases on the World Wide Web. It is an easy to use, yet powerful, full-text search, retrieval, and reporting system for large full-text databases. The majority of databases listed are available to the Northwestern community.

Features an archive of an archive of 6,000 poems by more than 600 classic and contemporary poets, all freely downloadable, which visitors can navigate with a powerful "Poetry Tool," as well as continually changing journalism and editorial content about poetry and poems in the archive. It's also an online poetry newspaper featuring journalism, a poetry best-seller list, reviews of events, and several podcasts.

Currently, Project MUSE offers nearly 250 journal titles from 40 scholarly publishers in the fields of literature and criticism, history, the visual and performing arts, cultural studies, education, political science, gender studies, economics, and many others. Allows basic and advanced searching options, for searching full text as well as author, title, Library of Congress subject heading, journal, author reviewed, and title reviewed.

Representative Poetry Online, includes 3,162 English poems by 500 poets from Caedmon, in the Old English period, to the work of living poets today. It is based on Representative Poetry, established by Professor W. J. Alexander of University College, University of Toronto, in 1912 (one of the first books published by the University of Toronto Press), and used in the English Department at the University until the late 1960s.

Records describe works cataloged by the Library of Congress, the National Library of Medicine, the U.S. Government Printing Office, CONSER (Conversion of Serials Project), the British Library, the British National Bibliography , the National Union Catalog of Manuscript Collections, and member libraries. The RLG Union Catalog also offers unique online access to special resources, such as the United Nations' DOCFILE and CATFILE records, and the Rigler and Deutsch Index to pre-1950 commercial sound recordings. Provides user-friendly access to the Online Computer Library Center's (OCLC) Online Union Catalog (OLUC), the world's most comprehensive online catalog. WorldCat lists more than 41 million books, journals, maps, recordings, films, scores, and other materials located in public, academic, corporate, school and specialized libraries all over the world. WorldCat is searchable by many different criteria, including: author; title; subject heading; conference, corporate, geographic or personal name; publisher; place of publication; standard number (such as ISSN or ISBN); series title and URL. In addition, users may limit searches by year of publication or range of years, document type (book, serial, musical score, etc...), language, or to items available at a particular library. Search results may be ranked by publication date or by relevance. WorldCat also includes searchable and browseable indexes for many search fields, and a subject heading look-up feature. Books and some non-book materials that are not available in an NU library may be requested through the Interlibrary Loan Department using the 'ILL' button at the top of the screen.
