Unrestricted Access - Open to Everyone European National Libraries Catalog
The European Library is a non-commercial organization. It provides the services of a physical library and the opportunity to benefit from a virtual environment in 20 languages. Their website allows users to search through the resources of 30 of the 47 national libraries involved in The European Library. Resources can be both digital or bibliographical (books, posters, maps, sound recordings, videos, etc.).

Provides user-friendly access to the Online Computer Library Center's (OCLC) Online Union Catalog (OLUC), the world's most comprehensive online catalog. WorldCat lists more than 41 million books, journals, maps, recordings, films, scores, and other materials located in public, academic, corporate, school and specialized libraries all over the world. WorldCat is searchable by many different criteria, including: author; title; subject heading; conference, corporate, geographic or personal name; publisher; place of publication; standard number (such as ISSN or ISBN); series title and URL. In addition, users may limit searches by year of publication or range of years, document type (book, serial, musical score, etc...), language, or to items available at a particular library. Search results may be ranked by publication date or by relevance. WorldCat also includes searchable and browseable indexes for many search fields, and a subject heading look-up feature. Books and some non-book materials that are not available in an NU library may be requested through the Interlibrary Loan Department using the 'ILL' button at the top of the screen.

Fully searchable and browsable database of American poetry, including over 35,000 poems by more than 200 American poets. Also covered are six landmark anthologies of American poetry.

Northwestern Community Only (Restricted Access Resource) Asian American Drama
This edition of Asian American Drama contains 70 plays by 17 playwrights, together with detailed, fielded information on related productions, theaters, production companies,and more. When complete, the collection will include more than 250 plays, of which some 50% have never been published before. The database also includes selected playbills, production photographs and other ephemera related to the plays.

Northwestern Community Only (Restricted Access Resource) Bible in English (990-1970)
The Bible in English contains twenty versions of the Bible. In addition to the twelve complete Bibles, there are five New Testament works, two Gospel works and William Tyndale's New Testament, Pentateuch and Jonah translations. For scholars of English literature, particular attention has been given to the Renaissance period. All the most significant texts from Tyndale to the King James Bible, including the highly influential Coverdale, Bishops' and Geneva Bibles, appear. For researchers in the development of the English language, texts from all eras are included, with emphasis upon versions that closely represent its contemporary state. For biblical and theological scholars, texts from the Protestant, Roman Catholic and non-conformist traditions are represented. The complete English text of each edition is included, with all prefatory matter, notes, running heads and glossaries. Each individual text may be browsed, or you may search on keywords within a particular time period, book, version or testament.

Black Drama, when completed, will include more than 1200 plays, many previously unpublished. Over 100 playwrights will be represented, including Langstson Hughes, Ed Bullins, Willis Richardson, Femi Euba, Amiri Baraka, Randolph Edmonds and Zora Neale Hurston. Users may browse tables of contents for the database by author, title, characters, subjects, years of publication and theater companies. In addition, users may search for keywords within these fields or within the text of the plays.

Caribbean Literature is a searchable collection of poetry and fiction produced in the region during the 19th and 20th centuries. Among the titles selected by our editors are numerous rare and hard-to-find works written in English, French, Spanish, Dutch, and various Creole languages. Future releases will also feature journals, reference works, and interviews with key writers. New content is uploaded on a biweekly basis, giving users immediate access to a steadily growing treasury of classic, rare, and contemporary literature.

Provides electronic access to back issues of core scholarly journals in the humanities, social sciences and the sciences. Articles have been digitized, providing full-image access to the complete runs of over 100 journals. Users may browse by journal and issue, or may search the full text of the articles. Since JSTOR is intended to be an archive, it does not include the current issues of journals nor the most recent four or five years.

Northwestern Community Only (Restricted Access Resource) Periodicals Index Online
electronic index to millions of articles published in over 4,500 periodicals in the humanities and social sciences, some dating back 300 years, in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and other Western languages. Over 400 journals also contain cover-to-cover full text articles. Indexed journals are covered from their first issues through 1995, and may be searched by keyword, author, journal title, language, and year of publication.

Searchable collection of poems and individual volumes from all of the major movements and schools of Twentieth Century African American poetry from 1902 to the present day. Includes the complete text of each poem and any integral textual images or illustrations, as well as any accompanying text, such as dedications, notes, acknowledgements, prefaces, introductions, epigraphs.

Northwestern Community Only (Restricted Access Resource) Twentieth-Century Drama
When complete, this database will contain 2,500 published plays from throughout the English-speaking world, covering the history of modern drama from the 1890s to the present day. The full range of dramatic styles, genres and traditions will be represented, from widely studied and frequently performed plays to important examples of radical theatre, regional theatre, postcolonial theatre, women's theatre and popular forms such as farce and thriller that are often under-represented in surveys of the period. Representative playwrights: Amiri Baraka, Noël Coward, Susan Glaspell, John Godber, Beth Henley, Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, Eduardo Machado, Ngugi wa Thiong’o, John Osborne, Sean O’Casey, Terence Rattigan, Bernard Shaw, Megan Terry, Derek Walcott, Wendy Wasserstein and August Wilson.

Northwestern Community Only (Restricted Access Resource) Humanities Abstracts
Bibliographic citations from more than 450 periodicals in topics such as archaeology, art, classics, film, folklore, journalism, linguistics, music, the performing arts, philosophy, religion, world history, and world literature. Records added since 1994 have abstracts, and many citations have links to the full text of the article. Humanities Abstracts is searchable by keyword, author, title, and a variety of other fields. Articles in periodicals not held by NU libraries may be requested online through the Interlibrary Loan Deparment using the 'ILL' button at the top of the screen.

Humanities International Index is a comprehensive database covering journals, books and other important reference sources in the humanities. Humanities International Index provides cover-to-cover indexing and abstracting for over 1,700 journals and contains more than 1.6 million records. The database includes all data from American Humanities Index plus bibliographic records from a multitude of international journals, books and reference works. This database provides citations and abstracts for articles, essays and reviews, as well as original creative works including poems, fiction, photographs, paintings and illustrations. Humanities International Index is a unique, essential collection for comprehensive coverage of the humanities.

The English Literary Periodicals series consists of 233 titles published during the seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in England. While primarily literary in focus, these periodicals deal with a wide variety of subjects and thus offer the historian or scholar valuable resource material not only in the area of literature, but on such topics as theater, art, music, history, politics, sociology, philosophy, economics, religion and science. Of special interest is the English slant on life in America and particularly the American Revolution.

Northwestern Community Only (Restricted Access Resource) International Index to the Performing Arts
IIPA provides citations and abstracts to articles published in more than 200 international journals and magazines in the performing arts, including dance, film, drama/theater, stagecraft, broadcast arts, circus performance, comedy, storytelling, pantomime, puppetry, magic, and performance business. The database also includes citations to performance-related feature articles and obituaries published in the New York Times and Washington Post. Users may search by author, subject, publication, date, or by keywords within various fields. While the majority of citations are for current literature, IIPA also includes retrospective citations from 46 periodicals dating back to 1864.

The MLA International Bibliography consists of bibliographic records pertaining to literature, language, linguistics, and folklore. The database provides access to scholarly research in nearly 4,000 journals and series. It also covers relevant monographs, working papers, proceedings, bibliographies, and other formats. Users may search or browse by author, title, subject and by several other fields using the 'Search Builder' feature. In addition, searches may be limited by language, publication type and publication year or range of years. The database includes a searchable thesaurus, and allows subject searches to be focused using 'role indicators' and 'subfield codes.'
