Plundered in 1427 and again in 1430 by the Hussites, in 1467 by Victorin, in 1473 by Matthias Corvinus, in 1480, etc. By 1552, Altenburg had been reduced to a "desolate pile of rubble."
Thirty Years War: Altenburg plundered by Horn peasants (1619) and by Swedish troops (1645)
Complex razed and new construction begun in late 17th C. Present building erected under Abbot Placidus Much (1729–42), architect Josef Munggenast
