Ardagger (Lower Austria)

Founded by Emperor Heinrich III as a Kollegiatstift, a college for secular priests, in 1049.

Dissolved in 1784. The Library of Ardagger (500 volumes) was acquired at a public auction by the Benedictines of Seitenstetten in August 1787.

left: The "Margaret Window" (1234), depicting provost (Praepositus) Heinrich, an aristocrat probably from Freising, who donated the romanesque abbey for the expiation of his sins.
