Wesley W. Bates

Canadian artist Wesley W. Bates was born in the Yukon, at Whitehorse, in 1952. From 1972 to 1977 he studied fine arts at Mount Allison University in New Brunswick. In 1999 in Clifford, Ontario, he opened West Meadow Press Gallery, the venue for his prints, books,and paintings.

Wesley Bates's finest work was gathered in a 1994 publication, The Point of the Graver, published by Porcupine's Quill. His prints and paintings have attracted both private and instituitional collectors around the world. He won the Hamilton Arts Award in 2000, and in 2001 he was named Folk Artist in Residence at the Schneider Haus Museum. Among many other exhibitions are the 1995 showing of The Private Press in Canada and the Society of Wood Engravers, London, in 2000.
