Giving Books

Northwestern University is deeply grateful to persons who give books and other material to the University Library. The Library accepts books, journals, recordings, archival material, manuscripts, and other material that supports the research and teaching mission of the University. Because student and faculty interests are so diverse at Northwestern, the Library can make good use of gifts in many subject fields. We do, however, reserve the right to dispose of unneeded gift materials by selling, trading or recycling them.

The library also welcomes monetary gifts to support its collections, programs and facilities. For further information, contact the Director of Library Development at (847) 467-7129.

Gift books have significantly enriched the collection at Northwestern University Library for over 125 years. With your donations, we can add new titles to the collection, provide multiple copies of in-demand volumes, or replace volumes which have been lost and/or damaged. In the 1998-99 academic year, some 1,500 gift volumes were added to the collection. The following information on how the Library handles gift material is meant to guide individual donors and strengthen this special partnership which has served the University so well.
