Schaffner Library computers require you to login with your Northwestern NetID and password to gain access to electronic resources, collections, software and the Internet.

Computer lab availability

If you do not have a Northwestern NetID, you may request a Guest Net ID Account at the front desk. A Guest Account is valid for one day only and is available free of charge. Guest computer access is available 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday, and 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. 

All visitors without a Northwestern affiliate Net ID (including NU Alums and CIC visitors) requesting a Guest NetID must register at the Schaffner Library front desk in order to use a library computer. As part of the registration process, these individuals must present one of these pieces of valid photo identification to be scanned: driver’s license, state ID card, passport, or military ID, or NU Alumni Card.  Registered patrons will be given a visitors pass and issued a Guest NetID which will remain valid during guest computer access hours: 12:00 p.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Saturday.

All of the computers in Schaffner Library's electronic reference area provide access to the internet, Northwestern University's Electronic Resources, and NUcat: the library catalog, as well as provide access to a range of software.

An additional computer lab within the library serves the Kellogg School of Management's Part-Time MBA Program. Use of this lab is restricted to Part-Time MBA students. The Kellogg Lab is open during library hours.

A lab is also available for students enrolled in the School of Continuing Studies. This lab is located in Room 412 of Wieboldt Hall. Call 312-503-8820 for hours of operation. It is open to Northwestern students with a current, valid WildCARD.

Additional computers and printers are located in the library on the Evanston campus.
