Hundreds more Blackwell journals

Agreement adds new science, social science, and humanities journals to Library's portfolio

A new agreement with Blackwell Publishing—one of the world’s largest journal publishers within the physical sciences, life sciences, medicine, social sciences, and humanities—gives Northwestern users online access to nearly 800 Blackwell titles, including more than 460 titles new to Northwestern’s portfolio. In addition to backfile coverage to 1997, new titles created or purchased by Blackwell will be included throughout the term of the three-year agreement. Selected individual titles will still be received in print form.

The agreement provides for full-text permanent archival rights, and the Synergy platform allows for full-text searching of articles in one journal, in a subject group, or across all journals. Search results can be narrowed and refined. Registered users can save their search criteria, create a customized home page of favorite titles, and request email alerts. In addition to PDF form, most articles are available in html with embedded references, figures, and tables.

All journals are available at the Blackwell Synergy platform at: http://www.blackwell-synergy.com. Individual titles are accessible via NUcat and the electronic journal list in Einstein. They can be accessed from any Evanston or Chicago campus address, and off-campus via the Virtual Private Network.

Contact the Library’s selectors for more information on this new service. The reference desks at University Library, the Galter Health Sciences Library, and the Pritzker Legal Research Center can also provide immediate assistance and help in accessing the journals. Any comments and suggestions are appreciated.
