Victorian Studies in the electronic age
A cross-disciplinary index to British culture goes online
Northwestern now offers access to the Victorian Database Online, an index to articles, books, book chapters, and dissertations dealing with Victorian Britain, defined broadly in time from 1830 to 1914. This cross-disciplinary index covers the history, literature, art, music, philosophy, religion, science, technology, law, and education of the period. Publications dealing with Scotland, Ireland, and Wales are included, as are those on political and administrative aspects of the British colonies, and those covering aspects of the colonies that affected the cultural life of Great Britain.
This index has long been available in print as the Annual Bibliography of Victorian Studies, produced since 1976 at the University of Alberta. Now these annual volumes are brought together into a single database, with the coverage of publications extended significantly back to 1945, making it easier for students and scholars of the Victorian era to identify relevant literature across multiple disciplines.
The database can be accessed at http://turing.library.northwestern.edu/login?url=http://www.victoriandatabase.com/victoria.html
