All that jazz

The Music Library now offers Naxos Jazz

The Northwestern University Music Library has recently begun a subscription to Naxos Music Library Jazz, which offers all Northwestern students and faculty online, round-the-clock access to a wealth of jazz recordings by Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Sarah Vaughan, and many others. Specific notable recordings include the famous Massey Hall performance of "A Night in Tunisia" by Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie,
Count Basie's classic theme "Jumpin' at the Woodside,"
"Waltz for Debby"
from Bill Evans's historic Village Vanguard sessions,
Ella Fitzgerald scatting her way through "The Girl from Ipanema," and Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane's only recording together on the legendary "Tenor Madness."

To access Naxos Music Library Jazz, see the Music Library's Web site
under "Online Music Collections." Naxos Jazz is available from anywhere on campus. Off-campus access requires authentication via the University's Virtual Private Network (VPN). To configure your computer, see the instructions for off-campus access using VPN.

In addition to the availability of jazz online, the Music Library is expanding its holdings of jazz not covered by Naxos Jazz with purchases of many new CD releases by artists such as Brad Mehldau, Pat Martino, and Cassandra Wilson and retrospective purchases of historical performances on labels such as Blue Note and Impulse. These and many other CDs can be heard at the Music Library's Listening Center, on the second floor of Deering Library.
