New tool for analyzing the “permanent campaign”
The CQ Press Political Reference Suite now available online, brings together seven major political reference tools. This will be valuable for students for looking for background information and primary sources. For advanced researchers, this resource puts election data, biographical information, and other political facts a click away. Extensive analysis throughout helps contextualize the data and documents. Added features of the suite include the ability to export data into spreadsheets and to set up profiles to save and bookmark information.

Vital Statistics on American Politics
• Statistics on elections, political parties, public opinion, and voting. Examples of tables include:
• Types of voting equipment used in U.S. elections, November 2004
• House and Senate election results, by Congress, 1788-2004
Politics in America
• Profiles of state governors and members of Congress with biographies, election results, and key votes. Also includes congressional district maps and interest groups ratings.
Political Handbook of the World
• Country snapshots, including political history and maps. Enables breakdowns by regime type, party system, electoral system, and system of government
Congress and the Nation
• Perspective and analysis of the U.S. Congress 1945-2004. Includes legislative histories and extensive policy analysis.
Supreme Court Yearbook
• Annual overviews from 1989 on with case summaries and key case analysis. Also tracks judge’s alignment with other judges and includes lists of reversals of previous Supreme Court decisions (225 to date).
Historic Documents Series
• Compiled annually since 1972. Includes key primary documents with context and analysis. Documents from 1972 include the Anderson Papers and Thomas Eagleton’s announcement of his withdrawal from the Democratic ticket. Recent documents include the Final Report on Implementing the 9/11 Commission Recommendations and Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice’s remarks on U.S. policy concerning torture of detainees.
