Although our holdings are primarily U.S. Federal Government products, we also collect the following types of global and international maps. Most maps are not in the library catalog yet. The Maps Collection seeks to complement the Main Library's general collection of domestic and international atlases and gazetteers. We also have a large collection of historical and specialized atlases. Most of our atlases can be found in NUcat - Northwestern's Online Library Catalog.

Gazetteers help us find geographic coordinates of places. We have a large collection of CIA world gazetteers on paper (available from GovInfo Reference book shelves). Here are some online gazetteer sites.

U.S. Gazetteer by the Census Bureau

This gazetteer is used to identify places to view with the Tiger Map Server and obtain census data from the 1990 Census Lookup server. You can search for places, counties or MCDs by entering the name and state abbreviation (optional), or 5-digit zip code.
