New Acquisition for Special Collections
This collection of almost 5,000 books is estimated to represent 88% of all the Gay Pulp fiction titles published in the United States from the 1960s until the early 1990s. Mostly consisting of erotica, the collection also includes works by mainstream authors such as James Baldwin, marketed to seem more salacious than their texts really are. The cover art of many of these is highly amusing kitsch. Most of the authors of these books published them under pseudonyms, and while the main intent of these texts was to provide erotic stimulation, they also reveal sociological details about contemporary mores regarding sexual rights and cultures.
