Second Edition database final release
This week the final release of Black Drama, Second Edition went live with over 80 new plays. There are now more than 1,460 plays in the collection, many of them rare, and over 40% previously unpublished.
This final release includes unpublished works by George Houston Bass (founder of the Rites and Reasons Theatre at Brown University), Mustapha Matura, Paul Boakye, Kia Corthron, Gus Edwards, J.E. Franklin, Edgar White, Charlayne Woodard, and Marion McClinton (renowned director of August Wilson's work).
Also added to this release are plays by Aime Cesaire, Trevor Rhone, Roderick Walcott (the late twin brother of Derek Walcott and, in the opinion of many, his equal as a playwright), Austin Bukenya, Caryl Phillips, Sterling Houston, and Wole Soyinka (who according to many scholars, including our advisor, is the world's greatest living playwright, and who took 8 years to license).
With this final release, the collection has become a really remarkable archive of material.
