There is a new exhibition in the cases in the entryway to the Melville J. Herskovits Library of African Studies: "Africana Celebrates the World Cup" will be on display through August. The exhibition features a selection of publications and other materials related to South Africa's hosting of the 2010 World Cup which begins on Friday this week and continues through July 11.

Included in the exhibition are examples of books, magazines, comic books, and music CDs as well as official African team jerseys, commemorative cloth, jabulani and vuvuzela. This exhibition features only a small portion of the Herskovits Library's holdings related to the 2010 World Cup. The Herskvoits Library is building a collection of publications which fully document continent-wide the impact in Africa of this first-ever world cup hosted by an African nation. Esmeralda Kale, Bibliographer of Africana, mounted the exhibition; please direct any questions you have about it to her at ekale@northwestern.edu. If you are wondering what jabulani or vuvzela might be, please come to the Herskvoits Library and find out!
