Annual Book Sale Opens to NU Community April 3

Members of the Northwestern community—including students, faculty, staff, and alumni (with a valid WildCard or alumni ID)—are invited to preview Northwestern University Library’s annual book sale on Thursday, April 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The sale, which features more than 10,000 books, CDs, DVDs, periodicals, and Northwestern University Press overstock volumes, opens to the general public on Friday, April 4. While the sale has traditionally taken place over several workdays, this year for the first time ever, scheduled sale days include a Saturday morning. “We wanted to make it more accessible to the general public,” says book sale coordinator Betsy Allen, “and this way we’re trying to accommodate people who wouldn’t have time to come browse during their regular work-week.”

The sale is a much-anticipated tradition for many book collectors, including professionals who sometimes line up hours in advance to take advantage of the best selection.

Located in the library’s Ver Steeg Lounge (1970 Campus Drive, Evanston), the sale is open Friday, April 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday, April 5 from 8:30 a.m. to noon (with discounted inventory); and then Monday, April 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the final day, when books are sold for $1 a bag.

Hardcover books cost $3 each; quality paperbacks are $2; and mass market paperbacks are 50 cents each.
