Early American Imprints online

Northwestern University Library has acquired online access to a major collection of primary source materials for the study of the North American past. Titled Early American Imprints, Series II: Shaw-Shoemaker (1801-1819), the source complements Early American Imprints, Series I: Evans (1639-1800), recently acquired by University Library. Series II is based on Ralph B. Shaw and Richard H. Shoemaker's American Bibliography,..1801-1819.

The electronic version of Shaw-Shoemaker provides searchable full-text images of American imprints. Shaw-Shoemaker is part of the Archive of Americana, published by Readex. In addition to Early American Imprints, the Archive of Americana includes Early American Newspapers, also available to members of the Northwestern community. Click on Archive of Americana databases to access from campus or anywhere with Internet access (using your NetID and password).

Please note that Shaw-Shoemaker is a work-in-progress, with a completion date in the very near future. We will be acquiring catalog records from the American Antiquarian Society during the next year so that individual titles in Shaw-Shoemaker can be found in regular NUcat searches. Library users will then be able to link directly from NUcat to the online copy of the document.

NUcat upgrade July 21-24

The Library's online catalog system (NUcat) will be undergoing a software and hardware upgrade. The upgrade will commence at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, and is expected to be completed by Sunday, July 24.

During the upgrade, NUcat will be available for searching. While circulation information will be displayed, it may not accurately reflect the actual status of the item. Patron-initiated renewals will not be available through NUcat during the upgrade.
