On September 19, you are invited to begin the day with continental breakfast in the Ver Steeg Lounge, the University Library. Breakfast will be followed by subject-specific breakout sessions in 50-minute blocks beginning at 9:10 a.m. At 12:30 p.m., you are invited to a buffet lunch with a Faculty Forum, in which Northwestern professors will present examples of their own work in producing intricate, original scholarship using electronic media. The afternoon will be devoted to more breakout sessions, beginning immediately after lunch and continuing until the closing reception at 5:15 p.m.

Twenty sessions have been developed to cover the broad disciplinary interests of the participants. The intention is to offer cross-disciplinary training with a focus on resources and techniques that are not easy to master. The ultimate aim is to offer sessions that span the topical and disciplinary interests of all incoming students. We are not offering any general library reference training, although we will alert you to such opportunities.

While you are expected to attend at least two breakout sessions, we welcome you to attend as many as your schedule allows. To request, in order of preference, up to two sessions from each time slot, complete and send the registration form electronically by following the link in this URL: You may also print out and mail your form to Ruth Reingold, Assistant Dean for Computing Technology, 1922 Sheridan Road, Evanston, IL 60208-2240. For scheduling purposes, we need to have your requests in hand no later than August 31. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jeeyuhn Yoon Kang (

We look forward to seeing you on September 19th.
