Dr. Margaret Burroughs gifted the library a collection of prints in 2007

Lithograph by Margaret BurroughsDr. Margaret Burroughs, prominent Chicago artist, educator, and social activist, passed away last month on November 21. Burroughs was a fixture in the Chicago community, from her teaching days at DuSable High School and Kennedy-King College to co-founding the DuSable Museum of African American History in 1968 and serving as Commissioner of the Chicago Park District beginning in 1986. She was a prolific artist evoking themes of family, community, and history in her paintings, sculpture, prints, and poetry.

In 2007, Burroughs spoke at Northwestern University Library as part of the One Book, One Northwestern program. At that appearance, she presented to the library a collection of 12 prints, on display in the Student Lounge (South Tower, Second Floor).
