Most items in the Art Library circulate to Northwestern University Library patrons. A self-check station is located at the Art Library service desk. Two photocopiers, scanning stations, and hold shelves are available for patrons who prefer not to take materials out of the library.
Loan periods and overdue fines are the same as for books in the Main Library. However, replacement fees for damage or loss may be higher because of the difficulty in replacing many art books. Please take precautions against damage—protect books from moisture, do not place Post-it notes on pages, do not dog-ear pages, do not crack spines, and keep books away from food, beverages, pets, and art supplies.
All books must be returned at the Main Circulation desk at the Main Library, or at one of the book drops. Overdue fines may apply if checked-out materials are returned or left unattended in the Art Library.
Some materials do not circulate, such as serials, reference books, catalogues raisonnés, and materials that are too old, fragile, valuable, or heavily used to leave the library. Please ask an art library staff member if you would like to borrow any material in question.
