Northwestern is joining a global community of authors, researchers, publishers and libraries to celebrate the 4th international Open Access Week [3], October 18 - 24, 2010. Open access is free, unrestricted online access to the results of scholarly research.

Start your celebration of Open Access Week 2010 with these short video messages [4]from Heather Joseph of SPARC, Dr. Harold Varmus, Director of the U.S. National Cancer Institute and a Nobel Prize-winning scientist, and Dr. Cameron Neylon, Senior Scientist at the UK Science and Technology Facilities Council, biochemist, and author of the widely read “Science in the Open [5]” blog.

To whet your appetite for the October 18th video and the events of Open Access Week 2010, Dr. Philip E. Bourne, Professor of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of California San Diego and Founding Editor-in-Chief of PLoS Computational Biology has shared a brief video message about Open Access Week and the value of open access:
