LIBRARY CARDS: A Corporate Borrower's card for borrowing and access privileges at all Evanston Campus Libraries costs $500 per year for the first card and $200 for any subsequent cards. Cards are issued through the Main Circulation desk. Fees are payable at the time of application. Checks should be made payable to Northwestern University.
Cards are issued to individuals and are not transferable. Information on how to obtain one research assistant's card for each paid card is available. Lost library cards should be reported immediately to the Main Circulation desk at (847) 491-7633. The expiration date is noted on each card.
LOAN PERIOD: The loan period is four weeks for corporate borrowers. Books must not be taken from the Chicago metropolitan area.
RECALLS: If a book is charged out, you may place a recall on the book. You will then be notified by mail when the book is available and the last date it will be held for you. Books are subject to recall after a ten day loan period if needed by another user. If books are not returned by the date on the call-in notice, there is a $1.00 per day penalty fine. This applies at all times (i.e., holidays, vacations, and intersessions.)
LOCATE SERVICE: If you cannot find a book, request that a search be made at the Circulation Desk, west counter.
RENEWALS: Corporate borrowers may renew materials once for an additional four weeks. Books may be renewed by bringing them in person, by dropping off or mailing in the date-due slips, or online using the "My Account" feature of NUsearch .
OVERDUES: Regular: There are no daily fines for overdue books, but three overdue notices will be sent. Books will be assumed lost and billed a minimum of 30 days after the final overdue notice. (See BILLS, below.)
Recalls: $1.00 per day. Books will be assumed lost and billed after 30 days.
RETURNS: Books charged out from any of the N.U. libraries may be returned at the Main Library, the Science and Engineering Library, the United Library, or at the Galter Health Sciences or Schaffner Libraries on the Chicago Campus.
Books returned at the Main Library must be returned to the Circulation book drops on Level 1, or to the outside book drops at the south entrance. A drive-up book drop is located on the Evanston campus in the Fisk Hall parking lot just north of Locy Hall. The outside book drops are open 24 hours a day, every day of the year, but are only emptied once daily on weekdays. Please return all time-sensitive materials directly to the Library.
A "Book Return Receipt" is available upon request at the University Library's circulation desks. Borrowers are responsible for books reported returned but not recorded returned by the Library, unless a receipt for the book is shown at the circulation desk.
LOST AND DAMAGED MATERIALS: Lost books should be reported immediately to the Circulation Desk. Fines and fees for damaged and lost materials include reimbursement for billing, processing, and replacement.
BILLS: The bill for a lost/damaged book consists of:
If the billed item is returned within 28 days of the billing date, only the $10.00 billing fee and the fine will be charged.
If the billed item is returned within a year of the billing date, the purchase price will be refunded but not the fine or the billing and processing fees.
