NUcat

Use NUcat (the online catalog) to identify books that the library has, as well as journal titles, microfilm, videos, and other catalogued material. NUcat will also tell you whether material is in the main library or in another Northwestern University library.

General

Academic Search Premier

Academic Search Premier provides citations to journal and magazine articles covering almost all academic disciplines.

Academic OneFile

Indexes over 12,000 academic journals and includes full text articles with many of the citations in this database.

Dissertation Abstracts

Provides citations and abstracts to dissertations produced at nearly 550 universities worldwide. Some dissertations, including all dissertations completed at CIC institutions (comprising the Big Ten, the University of Illinois at Chicago and the University of Chicago) since 1996 are available online.

Web of Science

Citation indexes covering virtually all areas of scholarship. Search by cited reference in order to learn who has cited whom and how many times. Citations may also be searched by topic, author or source title.

Subject Specific

ERIC: Educational Resources Information Center (EBSCOhost)

ERIC (Educational Research Information Center) was founded in 1966 by the U.S. Department of Education, the Office of Educational Research and Improvement, and the National Library of Education. ERIC provides full text of more than 2,200 digests along with references for additional information and citations and abstracts from over 1,000 educational and education-related journals. Full text ERIC reports are available online form 1993 to present. The library holds earlier ERIC reports in microfiche.

Education Abstracts

Education Abstracts indexes and provides abstracts for articles from 400 journals covering the field of education. As of February 2006 this database indexed 39 journals not covered in ERIC.

Higher Education abstracts

This index contains abstracts of journal articles, conference papers and reports that are focused on higher education. Materials abstracted have appeared in a scholarly journal, been presented at a conference, or have appeared as a monograph or report.

Family & Society Studies Worldwide

Provides citations and some abstracts in social work, social science and family practice.

GenderWatch

Contains complete articles from academic and scholarly journals, regional publications, magazines, newspapers, newsletters, and other reports. Includes unique perspectives of regional, national, and international issues as they affect women, incorporating articles from the ethnic and minority press.

International Bibliography of the Social Sciences

This database contains bibliographic information from an international selection of publications (including over 2600 journals) in the fields of economics, political science, sociology, and anthropology.

PAIS International

This is an international index of periodical articles, conference proceedings,research reports, trade books, government publications, and documents published by non governmental organizations (NGOs). PAIS covers all issues that may be the subject of legislation in any country. PAIS selects articles from various publications and is not a comprehensive index of any single publication.

Pollution Abstracts

Pollution Abstractsion contains citations and abstracts from journal articles, conference proceedings, and hard-to-find documents. Topics cover pollution and environmental issues, including atmosphere, emissions, mathematical models, effects on people and animals, and environmental action.

Psyc Info

PsycInfo provides indexing and abstracting for literature in all areas of Psychology and related areas in Education, Sociology, Anthropology, Education, Management, and Communication.

Sociological Abstracts

Sociological Abstracts covers sociology and sociological topics in fields such as anthropology, economics, education, medicine, community development, philosophy, demography, political science and social psychology.

Urban Studies Abstracts

Urban Studies Abstracts includes bibliographic records covering essential areas related to urban studies, including urban affairs, community development, urban history, and other areas of key relevance to the discipline.

ETS Research Site

Contains reports published through the ETS Policy Information Center.

Statistical Resources

National Center for Education Statistics (NCES)

The National Center for Education Statistics is the primary federal entity for collecting and analyzing data related to education.

Statistical Resources on the Web: Education

This site is produced by the University of Michigan Documents Center and provides links to numerous sources of statistical information on the Internet.
