Interlibrary Loan
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) at the Schaffner Library will order materials which are not owned by Northwestern University Library (NUL) or are declared missing or lost. Basic ILL services, including electronic delivery of articles, are available to current students in the School of Continuing Studies, Kellogg, and Medill, and to faculty and staff. This service is not available to students in the OLLI program. Request Forms for both books and articles are available online and at the Schaffner Library Circulation Desk. Click here to request an Article How long does it take?Interlibrary loan items will be ordered from other libraries. Delivery time averages 2 to 3 weeks. NotificationPatrons are contacted by phone or e-mail as requested when the items arrive. All items are held at Schaffner's Circulation desk for at least 2 weeks. Articles are scanned and can be accessed online. An email notice will be sent to your Northwestern email account when your article arrives. Who is eligibleAll ILL services are available to the following users who have current, valid NU Wildcards with library borrowing privileges:
Alumni, OLLI students, and guest borrowers may only place intercampus loan (ICL) requests for items available at the Evanston campus libraries. Students not currently registered may not place ILL requests. ILL Loan Period and RenewalsLoan periods are determined by the lending library and are usually 2 to 4 weeks. Restrictions such as "no renewal" or "library use only" will be strictly observed. All borrowed materials can be returned to the Schaffner Library Circulation Desk or to the Main Library's ILL desk. Renewals should be requested prior to the due date and are granted only at the lending library's discretion. To place a renewal request click here or call (312) 503-8423.
