Getting materials from other libraries
Schaffner Library can get materials for you that are on the Evanston campus or at a non-Northwestern library.
To initiate a request for materials you will need to fill out a “Book Request Form” either online at http://www.library.northwestern.edu/schaffner/book.html or at the Schaffner Library circulation desk. The form will ask for your contact information as well as information about the item. To make sure that we get the exact item you are looking for, please enter in as much information as you have about the item. Also be sure to indicate where you found this item, whether through NUcat, World Cat, or any other source of information.
You can also request articles from periodicals and journals held at an Evanston library or a non-Northwestern library. To initiate this request, you will need to fill out an “Article Request Form” either online at http://www.library.northwestern.edu/schaffner/article.html or at the Schaffner Library circulation desk. As with the book requests, you will need to fill in as much information as you have about the article, including where you found the citation.
Schaffner can also request videos and DVDs from the Mitchell Multimedia Center on the Evanston Campus. Use the “Book Request Form” either online or in the library to make your request.
Schaffner cannot request books or articles from the Pritzker Law Library or the Galter Health Sciences Library. Patrons are asked to obtain materials from those libraries themselves.
If you have any questions about how to request materials, feel free to contact Schaffner Library at 312/503-8422 or come in to the library.
The Writing Place
The Writing Place is a free tutorial service provided to students who feel that they can use some extra help with their writing assignments, no matter what the class and no matter what stage of the writing process they might be. The main emphasis is on one-to-one work with an experienced writer who can analyze the student’s text and suggest ways to improve it. Many students are at the earliest stages of researching a paper and seek help focusing a topic or developing a thesis. Others come in with a final draft and wish to have a perfectly clean paper.
The Writing Place is located on the second floor of Schaffner Library. Hours are 4:15 to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Most appointments are 30-45 minutes long.

Resources by Subject Pages
Librarians at Schaffner Library have compiled lists of resources that can be obtained from the Schaffner Library print collection or accessed remotely through one of the computers in the library (or remotely from your home or office with a netID and password). A list has been compiled for each of the School of Continuing Studies majors. These resources are designed to answer basic questions in each of the majors as well as serve as a jumping off point for further research. Click this link to go to the resources page.
Kellogg Library Resources Pages
This web site is intended to supplement the Northwestern University Library and Schaffner Library sites and is designed primarily for Kellogg Part-time MBA and faculty. Included here are links to an online tutorial, a list of popular business databases, and a list of links to publicly available Internet business resources. You can access this page here.
Research Consultations
Schaffner Library offers Individual Research Consultations to Kellogg, School of Continuing Studies, and OLLI students. Research consultations are one-on-one sessions with a reference librarian that can help users with detailed research for papers, projects, or classes. Research Consultations are available to students and faculty Mondays-Fridays from Noon-6:30 p.m. Sessions must be scheduled three days in advance in order to allow time for the librarian to prepare for the consultation. To schedule a time with a librarian call 312/503-8422, e-mail schaffner-reference@northwestern.edu, or fill out the consultation request form available at http://www.library.northwestern.edu/schaffner/rc-form.html or at the circulation/reference desk.
Elimination of Daily Fines
Daily 10-cent overdue fines have been eliminated on books checked out from Northwestern University Libraries. If a book is not returned within 30 days of the due date, it will be considered "lost" and a replacement fee plus a non-refundable processing fee will be assessed. Please note that fines will continue to be assessed on items from the Core Collection, items that are on reserve for a class, recalled books, and items from the Marjorie I. Mitchell Multimedia Center.
