Borrow Materials

The circulation staff at the science and engineering library provide patron with all circulation matters related to materials located in the science and engineering library, including charge/discharge, fines/fees, renewals, etc. Detailed library circulation procedures and policies as well as Borrower Responsibilities are available from the Main Library Circulation Department.

The library has eliminated daily 10 cent overdue fines on normal loan items checked out from NU Libraries. Overdue fines will continue to be assessed on recalled books or books that are on reserve for a class.

Overdue Notice: as a courtesy, the first overdue notice will be sent the day after the item is due; 2nd notice will be sent when the item is 8 days overdue; 3rd notice will be sent when the item is 15 days overdue; final overdue notice will be sent when the item is 22 days overdue. Please note that books that are 30 days or more overdue are considered lost.

Replacement Fee: a non-refundable processing fee of $10 and a replacement fee will be charged for each lost book. The replacement fee for a lost SEL book is either $125 or the actual cost of the book, whichever is more. The replacement fee, however, is waived if the patron provides the library a replacement copy of the book. The replacement copy of the book needs to be in "Like New" condition for books published within 5 years or "Very Good" condition within 10 years of publication. The condition guidelines can be found at Amazon.com. The replacement coyp will not be accepted if it does not meet the condition guidelines.
