Reference Hours

Reference assistance provided at the science and engineering library may be obtained from the Circulation Desk. During the regular school year, a reference librarian is available from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. weekdays. Please send us your inquires through Ask a Librarian when the librarian is not available.

Reference Collection

The Cole-Higgins Reference collection, located at the north end of the second floor (entrance level), includes handbooks, encyclopedias, and other reference sources arranged by call number. Purchases for the Cole-Higgins Reference collection are supported by an endowment provided by Mrs. Lou Higgins.

The Astrahan Electronic Information Center provides access to online reference materials through networked workstations in the reference area. The Center includes networked computer workstations, printers, and laptop connections. The wireless networking access is also available on the second and third floors of the library.

Computer-assisted Literature Searching Searches of the literature can also be conducted by a reference librarian to retrieve bibliographic citations to journal articles, books, reports, etc., in most cases accompanied by abstracts/or full-text articles. There is a charge for online searches. Payment may be handled by cash or CUFS account. More information may be obtained from a librarian, or by calling (847) 491-2910. Searches are by appointment only.
