Tech Library: A Model for Tomorrow

Appendix C: Meeting with Tech Library Staff on 2/17/06

It was important to interview members of the staff because they are important stakeholders in the project. Since they work at the library and keep its operations running smoothly, it is important that our new design caters to all their needs. Below is the information we received from David Bishop, University Librarian and Robert Michaelson, Lori Arp and John Blosser, Library Department Heads.Do you have any general concerns with the design?· Probably would need 2 people for the 24-hour area (safety, book security)· Current design does not allocate enough space for the journals and reference (only 2 rows)o Probably enough room for reference aloneo Maybe enough room for both in five years, but there is not right now· Copy room should be larger· No microfiche machine currently in the designo Should be on the main floor somewhereo Would like to purchase a new machine· Would like to make the classroom easier to find· New painting and carpeting is a must

Are there any problems with our current circulation desk setup?· Need an office next to it· 6 shelves of class reserves (books, CDs, DVDs) must be within arms reach of circulation desko Shelves are approx. 7’ tall, 3’ wide and 1’ deepo 3 are for book reserves and their size will stay the same over timeo 3 are for CDs and DVDs and these will probably be expanding Any thing else come to mind that you would like fixed?· Electricity circuit in 1st floor staff lounge needs to be replaced – currently there is only one circuit that blows often· Renovate locker room on main floor (can turn it into office space)· Heating system (especially in offices) needs to be improved (too hot in winter)· Better wireless· More outlets (even in offices)· Staff Lounge – currently no heat or windows· Get rid of carrels and get more tables· How will office space be allocated?
