Tech Library: A Model for Tomorrow

Benefits of the Basic Design

As it stands now, there is nothing technologically impressive about the Tech Library. However with the implementation of these design recommendations, this library can represent a “library of the future.” The library will not only be more aesthetically pleasing with an abundance of windows and state of the art furniture, but it will be a more valuable library for Northwestern students, whether they are engineers or not. The library will be opened for limited access hours after midnight to allow for more late night studying options. It will be more conducive to group work with six additional group study rooms as well as designated group study areas. There will be an abundance of public access computers with the new 52-computer Info Commons area, similar to that in the Main Library. Space will be used more effectively by separating group study areas and private study areas so that the private study areas will remain quiet while groups can collaborate a little more noisily. The new library will also utilize modern technology, such as offering full wireless connectivity and video conferencing capability
