Tech Library: A Model for Tomorrow
Cost Analysis
Although an actual cost breakdown is currently not available, a good approximation can be made. After discussing the design ideas with Ron Nayler, Associate VP of Facilities Management, he estimated that the renovations would cost about $100 per square foot of the library, resulting in a total of about $1,500,000. Again this is a rough estimate based on the class’s ideas and Ron Nayler’s expertise and familiarity with such renovations (See Appendix V).
The following is a breakdown by floor of the estimated cost to renovate the library. It includes the furniture, the lighting and the carpeting. However it does not include construction costs, plumbing costs, painting costs, and windows replacement costs. Renovating the ground floor would cost $240,952. Renovating the main floor would cost $730,230. Renovating the top floor would take $302,122. The grand total of renovation in terms of aesthetics and technology would be $1,273,304 (Appendix P). For contact information for the recommended furniture vendors and additional notes on pricing, see Appendix Y.
