This service is available to currently employed full-time faculty and staff and currently enrolled students from Northwestern University who have library privileges at Northwestern.
The access and borrowing arrangements do not apply to research assistants; alumni; retired faculty (except emeritus faculty); visiting scholars; children and/or domestic partners of faculty, staff or students; fee borrowers; corporate borrowers; etc.
To obtain library borrowing privileges at University of Illinois at Chicago, Northwestern patrons must bring their WildCARD to the circulation desk at the Daley Library at UIC. NU patrons will be asked to fill out paperwork and staff will call the NU Library Privileges Office to verify their status. The NU WildCARD itself will act as the UIC library borrowing card.
University of Chicago at Illinois borrowers’ cards for NU patrons are valid for a maximum of one year, and have an expiration date of May 31st. Cards may be renewed annually upon verification of current status with Northwestern University.
Books checked out at UIC by Northwestern borrowers have a 4-week loan period, with no overdue fines for regularly circulating materials. If an item becomes 40 days overdue, a replacement charge and a non-refundable processing fee of $25.00 are applied and the patron record is blocked from further transactions. Loan periods and fine rates at UIC libraries are the same for all Northwestern borrowers, regardless of status.
Northwestern borrowers who do not return overdue or recalled UIC books will have a block placed against not only their reciprocal privileges but also their borrowing privileges at Northwestern libraries until the material is returned. Any fines and fees incurred at either institution are the responsibility of the individual borrower.
General UIC library collection materials may be renewed up to ten (10) times. Materials may be renewed online by logging into My Account. Materials may also be renewed in person at one of the UIC libraries' circulation desks.
In addition to returning books directly to UIC libraries, Northwestern patrons may return UIC books to the Interlibrary Loan desk or the Circulation desk at any NU library.
Please note: Books returned at NU will be shipped via the Illinois Library Delivery System and will not be checked in until they reach the owning library. Please plan accordingly by assuming a minimum 7-day transit time, during which time fees may accrue, depending on the due date. Patrons will be held responsible for any book returned in this manner until it is checked in at the owning library.
