NU Alumni, Visitors, and Friends
We welcome alumni, visitors and the public and offer a variety of privileges based on affiliation or status.
Alumni Association Cards issued from the John Evans Alumni Center allow access to the library at all hours, including those normally restricted to the NU community, but do not confer borrowing privileges. Alumni wishing to borrow books may purchase a card from the Library Privileges office. See "NU Alumni Privileges" for more information.
Patrons from other universities are welcome to make use of Library materials. For faculty and students from CIC institutions, "CIC Students and Faculty" includes information on how to obtain a Borrower's Card. In addition, the Library has reciprocal borrowing programs in place with Loyola University of Chicago and the University of Chicago; information about those may be found at "Loyola Patrons" and "U of Chicago Patrons," respectively.
Certain non-academic borrowers are also able to make use of Library resources. "Corporate Borrowers" describes the policies regarding corporate access to the Library. Information for those working for the city of Evanston, the state of Illinois, or the federal government is available at "Government Personnel." Patrons doing research for non-profit organizations can obtain information on borrowing privileges at "Non-Profit Professional Staff."
In addition, details on borrowing for Evanston residents are available at "Evanston Resident Borrower's Card." For hours when the Library is open to the general public, see "Public Access Hours." Some Library resources require a username and password; certain patrons are eligible for temporary usernames, which is explained on the "Guest NetIDs" page.
