CIC Students and Faculty
Faculty and Librarians From CIC Institutions
The Committee for Institutional Cooperation (CIC) includes all of the Big Ten Schools, University of Illinois-Chicago and the University of Chicago. Full time faculty members and professional library staff who have been issued a CIC card at their institution may:
• enter the library with their faculty ID
• apply for: a Borrower’s Card* in our Library Privileges office, valid for one year, if they present:
- a CIC Card from their home institution;
- one piece of ID from their home institution; and
- one piece of ID with a current Chicago metropolitan area address.
Students Attending CIC Institutions
Students attending a CIC institution who are currently living within the Chicago metropolitan area may apply for a Borrower’s Card* in our Library Privileges office, valid for three months, if they present:
- EITHER a current ID card from their home institution; OR a letter from their Dean or Department Chair stating that the student is in good standing with their home institution (this letter is good for one year);
- one piece of ID with a current Chicago metropolitan area address; and
- a $50.00 fee for three months of borrowing privileges.
*Borrower's cards do not grant patrons access to NU Library's online databases, which require the use of a NetID. NUIT assigns NetIDs only to current NU students, faculty, and staff members. Any library guest can request a free temporary NetID (or "day pass") for use on the premises (see the Guest NetIDs page for where to request one).
