Printing from Library Computers

Printing in all library locations is managed by software called PaperCut, we employ in a system called NUPrint.

NUPrint processes print requests and assesses a fee which is then charged to your WildCard or copycard.

How to Print using NUPrint

Step 1:

Before sending a print request, use the "Print Preview" option under the "File" pull-down menu to ensure that you only print the pages you desire. This is particularly useful for printing just the information you want from a web site.

Printing to a Queue

NUPrint default to black and white two-sided printing (BW-DUPLEX queue). You can choose one-sided printing in the print dialogue box. You can also print in color by choosing the COLOR queue, which defaults to one-sided printing.

Please Note: In the NUPrint system an NU user could go to any black and white printer (BW-DUPLEX queue) or color printer (COLOR queue) ) to release a print job. This is sometimes called 'Follow Me' printing

Step 2:

Your NUPrint Account

The first time you send a print job you automatically create your NUPrint account. You can manage your account by visiting the NUPrint web portal.

  • Go to https://nuprint.northwestern.edu.
  • Use your NetID and password to log into the web portal.
  • Add money to your NUPrint account using a credit card.
  • Check the balance on your account.
  • See a list of all your waiting print jobs being held in print queues.
  • See a history of your printing activity.
  • Change your PIN if desired.
  • Track your environmental impact.

Step 3:

Submitting a Print Job

Send jobs to print per normal Mac/PC operating procedures, selecting the options you desire.

Step 4:

Two Ways to Release a Print Job at the Printer

  1. Using a cPad (touchpad)

Please Note: Any NU user printing for the very first time in NUPrint will be prompted to set their PIN when they use a cPad.

    1. Go to the printer with an adjacent cPad.

    2. Log onto the cPad. This can be done in either of two ways. Each logon method will always prompt you for your PIN for security.

      1. Swipe the broad magnetic stripe on your WildCard through the card swipe device on on the side of the cPad. When prompted to enter your PIN, tap in the PIN field, then enter your PIN using the touchscreen keypad. Tap on "OK." The cPad will display your print jobs.

        OR

      2. Type your NetID and password on the touchscreen of the cPad. This is more cumbersome, but it is a useful when an NU user forgets their WildCARD. (This method works because the funds are not stored on the WildCARD but with the NetID-based NUPrint account.) Tap in the "Username" field, and use the touchscreen keyboard to enter your NetID. Tap on "OK" when you are done. Then tap in the "Password" field, and use the touchscreen keyboard to enter your password. Tap on "OK" when you are done.

      3.  When you have successfully logged in, you will see this screen:

      4. At the top of the screen is your name and NetID. Below that is a list of your waiting print jobs. Each entry in the list contains the date the print job was submitted, the name of the document, the class of printer to which the print job was sent, and the cost of printing the document

      5. Release or delete your print job(s)
    •    To release all your print jobs at once, tap on the "Print All" button.
    • To release a print job, tap on the entry in the list and then tap on the "Print Job" button.
    • To delete a print job from the list, tap on the entry in the list and then tap on the "Cancel Job" button.

Log out of the touchpad by tapping on the "Log Out" button in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
  1. Using a Print Release Station

    1. Go to the printer with a adjacent print release station.

    2. Log into  the Print Release Station in one of these two ways:

      1. Swipe the broad magnetic stripe on your WildCard through the card swipe device on the side of the monitor. When prompted, enter your PIN using the keyboard. Then click on the "OK" button.

        OR

      2. Enter your NetID in the "Username" field and your password in the "Password" field. Then click on the "OK" button.

    3. When you have successfully logged in, you will see this screen:

In the center of the screen is a list of your waiting print jobs showing the date, your NetID of the person who submitted the print job, the class of printer to which the print job was sent, the name of the document, the number of pages in the document, and the cost of printing the document.

Above the list of print jobs is your NetID, the funds in your NUPrint account, and the amount of cash (coins and bills) you have put in the coin box attached to the Print Release Station. As you add cash coin box, click on the "Refresh" button to update the funds total.

    • To release a print job from the list, click on the "Print" button for the print job.
    • To delete a print job from the list, click on the "Cancel" button for the print job, and click on the "Yes" button when prompted.
    • To delete all print jobs, click on the "Cancel All" button in the lower right hand corner of the screen, and click on the "Yes" button when prompted.

When you are finished, click on the "Done" button in the lower right hand corner of the screen.
