| Ink is spread evenly over the heated plate with a dabber. A tarlatan, or coarsely woven muslin, is used to lift ink off of the smooth surfaces of the plate. Finally, the plate is wiped in even strokes, first with newsprint (as shown) and last with the side of the palm. Now the ink sits only in the etched and engraved lines of the surface. | ||||||||
