Pantelias Marlene, I am so very sorry you had to leave us so soon and so unexpectedly.
I will always remember you as a very kind and warm person who would look at me
with a big smile, ready to help, every time... I will miss you. Good bye my friend.

Neuhalfen Hey Marlene : Can you see us? If you didn't know it before, it's a fact
now -- this mortal life of yours was too short, BUT WAS LIVED WELL. You touched
so many with your special light as is evidenced by the many, many sad faces in
the library this week. Thank you for so many wonderful memories. Peace to you
and your family.

Marlene is one beautiful person that I will alway have a place in my heart. Never in the 10 years I have known her was she
in bad spirits. She was always a happy person no matter what was on her mine.
I'll miss you.....

I will miss the way Marlene brightened my day no matter what was going on. One of the last times I
saw her we were both teary eyed for a colleague who was undergoing great sorrow.
Now we all shed our tears for her. I am deeply saddened by her loss.

Maralene was a true friend. She was always willing to do for others, but not very much for herself.
God sends only one true person like her very seldom. Thank god I got to know her.
Let there be peace in her family's heart for she does not have to suffer.

Marlene and I comiserated about being the mothers of sons. Her sons both married within months of my sons. Her granddaughter was born within weeks of my granddaughter. When my grandson was born, I teased her about catching up with me. We loved to talk about needlework. Marlene gave me a bag of wool and canvas that belonged to her Mother. I have been able to use this to make other things to share with friends. I thank her for all of her sweetness and good humor. I thank her family for not only sharing her with us, but because we all got to know so many of them through her pictures. Many, many of us have been blessed to have quilts that she made for us. I was fortunate to be able to make a very special needlepoint for her that her family will have to remember her by. I am filled with such incredible sadness at her loss. I wish I could be there with you all in this time of grief. Love, Carole

Marlene -- We had so many wonderful chats about growing up on the south side of Chicago. Who else knows about Ogden Park? I never managed to stump you when I'd mention someplace I used to go with my family as a kid. I'll miss your sweetness and kindness. This world has lost a gentle, loving soul but I can't wait to see one day the marvelous quilts you must be weaving now using celestrial threads.

It's hard to be so far away at this sad time. I'm thinking about all of you and how much you loved and depended on Marlene. She was such a luminous spirit, I can feel the glow in your tributes to her. Her spirit will always be alive in our hearts.

Marlene,
I shall miss all our show-and-tell quilting sessions. I admired your creativity and natural talent in quilting. Your light will be sorely missed. I am so happy that you were able to light the torch of another quilter, your daughter-in-law. I know she will have many happy memories from your time together.
Love,
Ann

It is very difficult for me to write this without a few tears. Though it has been six years since I have last spoken to Marlene, I have many fond and vivid memories of this generous person. I remember talking with her just about every day - just about anything, since my office was in ISDO. She always had a smile; her down-to-earth demeanor made everyone feel comfortable. I am fortunate to have a bit of Marlene in my home, a beautiful baby quilt she made for me when my first child was born seven years ago. My prayers go to your husband and family. May your soul rest in peace, Marlene...

It is with great sadness that I read Marlene Klauba has passed away.
I always enjoyed talking with her whenever I had the opportunity to visit the Administration Office in Evanston.
It is hard to believe she won't be there again.

Marlene,
I'm so happy to have known your wonderful smile, generous, creative, spirit and kind helpfulness, however briefly. It was always a pleasure to encounter you at the library and you managed to make a job into a 'calling' and lifted so many of us along the way. My heart will ache a long time for your family & loved ones...but I know the angels are rejoicing all over heaven to have you home again. You will be sorely missed!

The poet, John Keats, wrote "the center will not hold" but Keats was wrong. Marlene was our center and we will hold on to cherished memories of her and how much she gave to the Library and to each of us.
She taught us a final lesson; that we never thanked her enough, in time for her to hear it. Perhaps that is her legacy--to remind us to express appreciation while there is time.
Thank you, Marlene, for reminding us of what we
all too often forget.

I just chanced upon this website tonight. I don't know what to say. I am so touched by the love my late sister-in-law's co-workers have for her and continue to show by memorializing her memory and spirit via this website. Thank you.
Thank you for keeping her beauty, her gentleness, her kindness, her life's energy continue to comfort us all as if she were tucking us all in with one of her patchwork quilts.
Bless you all.

When my sister said that there was a website tribute to Marlene, I did not realize the extent to which her co-workers would go to express their love and admiration for someone so special to me.
Thank you for expressing your heartfelt emotions through your words and pictures. You obviously had discovered what her family already knew---that she was a treasure beyond price. Truly, the loving care and concern she showed for each person she met has left an indelible mark upon each heart.

I was thinking about my mom today, as I do everyday. I go to this website to get some comfort in knowing how many people she touched with her genuine kindness.
There was a very huge hole in my life when my mom passed. She was so good to us and I can never thank her enough for that. As I write this my wife Maltita is sewing something for a friend of hers, using skills my mom passed down to her.
It is amazing that phrase "you never what you got until its gone". Well...I knew what we had, and I'm thankful to God that he made me realize that years ago.
To The people of Northwestern: thank you for all of your thoughts and memories. It has meant more to me than you can ever realize.
Mom, I miss you everyday of my life....
your son

I'm a quilting friend of Marlene's. This weekend NSQG, her guild, is having a quilt show at Harper College. Tonight was set up night for the show, I was setting up a special section called, "In Rememberence". It's for the women from NSQG who have gone to heaven since our last show, Sept 2001. There have been 5.
I don't have a quilt to hang of Marlene's but I thought I'd write up something to put in a frame on the table to remember her by. I'm so glad I came across this web site!
Our raffle quilt is dedicated to the memory of Marlene, and the other women who joined her in heaven. You can view the quilt on www.nsqg.com, scroll down to read the beautiful label we made in dedication of our "quilting angels".
I just wanted her family and friends from NW to know she is still remembered by many in her quilting guild also.

Northwest Suburban Quilter's Guild Quilt Show as this past weekend. We set up a special section "In Rememberence" of our "Quilting Angels", it was a very nice way to remember Marlene and others who have gone to heaven the past 2 years since our last quilt show.
I knew Marlene because I'm also from the southside (originally), we met at a quilt show in South Holland Il many years ago and always made it a point to talk to each other at guild, and to sit near each other. My best quilting friend Vicki is also a "Quilting Angel", she left us and two young boys in March of 2003, liver cancer.
I'm proud to say that I WON NSQG's RAFFLE QUILT which was dedicated to the memory of Marlene, Vicki, Donna, Sheryl, and Anne. I'll always treasure this quilt for the special memories it holds, for the special friends that we lost.
