FROM THE TRANSPORTATION DIVISION CHAIR
In less than two months, I hope to be seeing many of you in Toronto
at the SLA Convention. I want to remind you of a couple of
special things happening this year. The Business Meeting will
be on Monday, but does not include lunch, so there is no charge.
Please feel free to bring a “brown bag lunch” to
hear the wrap-up reports on this year’s activities, congratulate
the newly elected officers, and to see who will be the recipient
of the Professional Achievement Award. Be sure to check out
the Final Schedule for the Division’s events at the SLA
Conference in Toronto on this web site.
I want to thank the Nominating Committee: Dan Krummes, Nelda
Bravo, and Shaun Moran for their great work in finding great
candidates for the various offices. Also, special kudos to Rita
Evans for setting up and administering our first-ever Internet
voting. Those selected to serve were: Chair-Elect, Matthew Barrett,
of the LA MTA Library; Secretary, Jane Watson, NTL; and Treasurer,
Lisa Pogue, APWA. Congratulations, thanks for agreeing to run
and best wishes to all of you. The Incoming Board will meet on
Wednesday morning at 7 A.M. Please be advised that no breakfast
will be served.
Special Notice: there will be a no-host dinner on Sunday evening
during the conference. Arrangements are being made by Aarash
Kalra, Librarian with SNC-Lavalin Engineers & Constructors
Inc. in Toronto. We will be going to Alice Fazooli's Restaurant.
We need to make reservations, at least 2 weeks in advance. Please
email Aarash at Aarash.Kalra@snclavalin.com
if you plan to attend. He will need to know the number of people
by May 19. If you care to check out the restaurant, here is the
web address: http://www.toronto.com/fazoolis.
The address of the restaurant is 294 Adelaide St. W. It appears
to not be far
from
the Holiday
Inn on King. So let’s plan to meet at the Holiday Inn on
King at 6 P.M. and we can walk over to the restaurant. The restaurant
offers a terrific selection of authentic pastas, regional main
courses, seafood, fresh fruit, steaks, and salads in a turn-of-the
century warehouse. Sounds like a real party in the making. Be
sure to join your fellow Transportation members for this fun
evening.
A great big thanks to those who worked to acquire vendor sponsors
for the convention. Please be sure to thank the sponsors as you
visit the exhibits. If you are not attending, but use these vendors,
please be sure to thank them for their generous donations. Our
sponsors are: ASCE, Janes, Infocurrent, CCH, OCLC, SWETS, Elsevier,
and Dialog.
I am pleased to announce that Hanson Professional Services, Inc.
has become a member of MTKN. We look forward to working even
more closely with the Transportation community.
Hope to see you all in Toronto.
