General Information:
The Transportation Library maintains a major collection on traffic and law enforcement that supports the programs and research activities of Northwestern's Center for Public Safety. The library is available to offsite students, graduates of the program, and the law enforcement community.
Hours:
The Transportation Library is accessible any time that the Main
Library is open. Reference assistance is available M - F 8:30am - 5:00pm.
Scope of Collection:
Comprehensive coverage of traffic law enforcement, traffic and highway safety, police organization and management, emphasizing patrol, work force scheduling and allocation, budget and finance, personnel management and training, human relations, and computer applications. Other aspects of policing, criminal justice, and public administration are represented selectively.
Police and law enforcement materials in the Library total over 50,000 items; approximately 2000 items are added annually including books and reports, government documents, dissertations, journals, conference proceedings, and specialized bibliographies and indexes.
On campus students have access to many electronic databases including the National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS). Offsite students can access the NCJRS database at http://www.ncjrs.org/database.htm.
