World AIDS Day
Figures just released by UNAIDS for 2011 estimate a world-wide population of people living with AIDS as 34 million, 22.9 million of whom live in Africa south of the Sahara.
The Herskovits Library has a long-standing commitment to collecting posters because of the important role posters play in many aspects of public communication and because of their wide use throughout the continent. About 200 of these posters are accessible from the Herskovits Library poster website.
This video was created by John Kannenberg, Library Assistant in the Herskovits Library, for World AIDS Day 2006. It has been revised by Michelle Guittar, Library Assistant, for World AIDS Day 2011. The poster digitization project is the result of the efforts of many Northwestern University Library staff in a number of departments: Bibliographic Services, Digital Collections, Enterprise Systems, Preservation, and the Herskovits Library, as well as staff in Academic Technologies, a department of Northwestern University Information Technologies.
