Books on the move at the Libraries

As we accommodate our growing collections and prepare over the next two years for the anticipated restoration of Deering Library, we continue to shift books from University (Main) snd Deering Libraries to the Oak Grove Library Center, our off-campus high-density-shelving facility with state-of-the-art climate and temperature controls.

As materials are transferred to Oak Grove, some of the collections in University Library will be shifted and consolidated. Some areas will appear unaffected while others, such as the third floor towers, will appear nearly empty for a time. Rest assured that we are not losing materials and that the collections you need will always be available to you.

  • We are still finalizing details about the relocation of certain call numbers. Library staff are working hard to orchestrate this multifaceted project, and we will share details with you during the coming months. We will update this page as new information is available. You may also consult the Book Location Guide for accurate information on specific call number locations.
  • If you are concerned about finding the resources you need, please remember that you can place materials on hold for pick up at the University Library circulation desk as well as at other Northwestern library locations. Faculty can request delivery of materials to campus offices. Our staff will always know where to find items during this transition. Learn more about item pick up and delivery options.

We know this transition may be an inconvenience for you and our staff is ready to help you navigate these changes. These relocations make the best use of our campus footprint. Library reconfigurations, and the book moves that precede them, are a necessary part of our mission to connect you with scholarly resources.
